I have been rescuing dogs for over 10 years now and we have never had to get the caval surgery done on any Heartworm positive dogs It’s rare to need this surgery but when it’s needed it’s CRITICAL we get the dog into the emergency room ASAP. Larry went in for his echocardiogram today and we were quickly informed that his right side of his heart was blocked with heartworms. They are surprised he is even doing well at all. I knew something wasn’t right with his heart because I could feel it pumping irregularly when I held him. We are rushing him to Texas A&M University as they are one of the only clinics that can do this specialized surgery. They will surgically extract heartworms from Larry’s heart. There are risks with this surgery. But the risk of him dying without the surgery is much higher. The estimate for this surgery is $5-7k. George is rushing him to College Station now and admitting him thru the ER hoping they will do the surgery ASAP. We are very scared for our boy Larry. His life of love has just begun and his chances of living a full life after surgery are high. He just needs this specialized procedure
